A few (hopefully) interesting facts
As early as 1905 , the one year old , Canadian Oil Company  was advertizing marine products in
"The Canadian Marine". Other than a few printed ads,the pocket-knife , shown at the top of the page,
is the only example of marine memorabilia I have seen. It is about 2-3/4 inches long and probably predates
the change of company ownership in 1938. An added bonus is on the other side,
- a  tiny Boy and Slate. Decisions,decisions----which side would  you display?

I believe these products were probably sold in large bulk containers with no graphics. The exception to this rule would
be the Aviation packaging. The following 1946 photo shows an  AVOIL imperial quart tin and a 25 lb. AVGREASE  pail.
I am assuming that they are the yellow tins with the black bottom band , but appear to have a third colour for the
top 1/3 of the tin--prossibly sky blue ???
Can anyone help with a better photo?   wpf@mnsi.net

I also have a  photo of a nice AVGAS delivery truck for a later feature.

The side panel of early  hand-soldered  tins listed aeroplanes as a  recomended use for
National Carbonless Motor Oil (circa 1912)
and   En-Ar-Co Motor Oil (1919).

I have been told that the decks of White Rose playing cards were given to marine customers
to kill some time on long voyages. The deck of cards I have are the later wedge style logo.
Do you know of any earlier versions?                          wpf@mnsi.net
