Oil Change Stickers and
Reminders
(and a few related pieces
)
When you produce
and market oil and petroleum products, your "JOB 1 ", then as now
was to sell more product. One of the easiest ways to do that is to keep
your customers coming back . I'm not sure who thought of reminding motorists
to change their oil but Canadian Oil Companies Ltd.
jumped on the bandwagon in a big way.

Pictured above is a change Oil andAlemite tag
which has a loop string attached , making it simple to attach under car
hood at time oil change and Alemite is made . A supply is furnished FREE
to all En-Ar-Co Motor Oil dealers who render this service .
After every oil change and Alemite , record on
card the mileage by the addition of 500 miles to the present car mileage,
then calling the owners attention that card has been placed under the hood
as a reminder to him when next car requires oil change and Alemiting.
Reverse side of card is reserved for dealer's
name and address , whch also serves to remind car owner where to have service
again rendered .

The average motorist will
not place a large tag or sticker on the instrument board or windshield
of his car , but he will use something small , neat , and attractive ,
and here it is ! These small tags are die-cut in the shape illustrated
.
A supply will be furnished
FREE to En-Ar-Co Motor Oil Dealers who render Oil-Change service .
After oil change is
made , record on Tag the mileage at which oil should again be changed by
the addition of 500 to the present speedometer reading ; Tag can then be
"hooked" on choke .
Ask the En-Ar-Co salesman
, or write our nearest Branch Office :
A very nice giveaway program
produced these unique oil change reminders. They had a pin on the back
to attach to your sunvisor , interior trim or the lapel of your Sunday
suit if you were so inclined.I believe the one on the left is Canadian
and the one on the right, American .The hard part to collecting these is
to find an original working thermometer.I have only managed to find one
working example.(not shown)
Next came the peel off back
and self adhesive versions we are now familiar with . These would be applied
to the door edge or under the hood to remind us when the next servicing
as due .
If you were a sharp
garage operator you kept good records of your customers vehicle servicing
and mailed these company issued postcard style reminders to keep them coming
back .Personally I'm glad no one reminds me to change my oil every month
but it wasn't that long ago that oil changes were recommended every 500
miles ---- things were not always better in the good old-days.
