WHITE ROSE
"Tune"
PEP

POWER
PERFORMANCE
Canadian Oil Companies
Ltd. were expanding their product lines.Engine performance and
maintenance were important
to all motorists so it would seem only natural for service stations to
provide a product to meet these needs. It appears
White Rose "Tune" was
developed as a gasoline additive but later it was also recommended for
the crankcase as well, basically cleaning the inside of your engine .
The first mention of White
Rose "Tune"
that I can find was in early 1944. I believe the first packaging
was the 4 Oz. glass bottle ,of different shapes and colours.Possibly ,
whatever was available at the time. As wartime shortages came to an end,
4oz. tins became available, first with paper labels, then lithographed.
It was also marketed in 16 oz.tins, Imperial quarts
and the generic 1 gallon tins.
The photo above shows the yellow 4 oz. (1946 ?-1952),
the "speckled rose" version (1953-1957) ,
and the "large wedge " series (1958-1962).
After the purchase by Shell Canada, a similar can
was used (1963-1967) .
Besides a name change, the ''Shell'' version does
not show the veins in the leaves of the rose.
